Chemistry 30 - 8256

Pre-requisite: Physical Science 20

Delivery Method: Online Asynchronous

Course Description

Chemistry 30 will expand on the study of chemical properties and bonds and ask learners to investigate what makes materials suitable for use in specific household and industrial applications. We will also explore the nature of equilibrium in chemical reactions including solution chemistry and acid-base reactions. As we dive into the unit on electrochemistry, learners will explore oxidation-reduction reactions and the impact of electrochemistry on society and the environment.

Units of Study

  • Unit 1 - Review of Basic Chemistry Concepts
  • Unit 2 - Bonding and Material Properties
  • Unit 3 - Organic Chemistry
  • Unit 4 - Solubility and Solutions - Student Directed Study (SDS)**
  • Unit 5 - Equilibrium
  • Unit 6 - Acids and Bases: Acid-Base Equilibria
  • Unit 7 - Redox Reactions

Required Resources

  • Scientific Calculator
  • Distilled or tap water
  • Electronic balance (i.e. food scale)
  • Salt
  • Molecular Model kit (recommended)
  • Safety goggles

**As learners will design their own procedures for the SDS, material and equipment selection will vary.
